Swift A11y privacy policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026 (version 0.1.1: Firefox gets the same scan as Chrome and Edge)
The short version
Swift A11y sends nothing anywhere. It has no server, no accounts, no analytics and no advertising. It keeps your recent scans in your own browser so you can open them again; they never leave it.
What it does
Swift A11y is a browser extension, and a set of bookmarklets, that tests web pages for accessibility problems. It does nothing until you press its toolbar button.
The button opens Swift A11y beside the page (a panel in Chrome and Microsoft Edge, the sidebar in Firefox). From it you can scan the page you are on, and run any of fifteen testing tools on it. The scan runs three accessibility engines that are packaged inside the extension (axe-core, IBM Equal Access and Siteimprove Alfa) on that one tab, in your browser. Each tool reads the page and shows its result in a panel on the page.
The extension reads the page (its structure, text alternatives, form labels, colours, sizes and positions) only to work out what to report.
What it collects
Nothing. No personal information, browsing history, page content, scan result, screenshot, usage statistic or crash report leaves your computer. The extension makes no network requests of its own and has no server to send anything to.
What it keeps on your computer
So you can open a result again, the extension keeps your newest 50 scans in the extension's own storage (IndexedDB) in your browser profile. A stored scan holds:
- the page's address and title, and when it was scanned;
- each issue found, with the element's position on the page, its selector and its markup as the engines report it;
- small screenshots of the flagged elements, kept for the newest 10 scans only.
The panel also remembers three settings (light or dark, whether to show tool descriptions, whether to take screenshots).
This stays in your browser. Other websites cannot read it, and the extension never sends it anywhere. Older scans are removed automatically past 50. Removing the extension deletes all of it. A page you scan may contain personal information; if you scan such pages, treat the stored scans and anything you download or copy from them with the same care as the page.
The fifteen tools themselves store nothing.
What you type in forms
The tools never show, store or copy what you have typed or chosen in a form field, including through a label, description or error message that quotes it.
Permissions
activeTab: lets the extension work on the tab you are looking at, after you press its button. It cannot reach other tabs, other windows or any site in the background. It also lets the panel take the screenshots of the flagged elements from that tab.scripting: puts the scan engines or the chosen tool, files packaged inside the extension, into that one tab. No code is loaded from the internet.sidePanel(Chrome and Edge only): shows the panel beside the page. Firefox's sidebar needs no permission.
It asks for no host permissions and no other permissions.
Copying and downloading results
Copy as ticket and each tool's Copy button write results to your clipboard when you press them. The extension never reads your clipboard. Download results and Download CSV save the scan's issues as a CSV file through your browser's normal download, to wherever your browser saves files.
Links to the website
Each tool's panel has a small "Swift A11y" link to swifta11y.com. It is a plain link. Nothing is sent unless you click it, and then it is an ordinary visit in a new tab. The address carries only the tool's name and where it was used (for example ?from=headings-extension), never anything about the page you were testing. The website is a separate service; see its own privacy notice.
Updates
The browser store updates the extension in its usual way. The extension itself checks for nothing.
Children
Swift A11y is a professional testing tool and collects no information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version changes what the extension does with information, this policy is updated first and the date above changes. A version that begins to send anything off your computer would also have to declare it in each store's listing.

Checking this yourself
The extension is open source under the MIT licence. Its manifest.json lists the permissions above and nothing else. Open the browser's developer tools on the Network panel, scan a page or run any tool, and see that the extension makes no request.
